AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS
Preparing an Audition
Decide! Determine which show you will be auditioning for by choosing from the list on our audition page. Then, peruse through the character breakdowns and choose which character you would like to audition for. You can pick more than one character!
Sides! Within the dropdown for each character description, you will find downloadable PDFs of the audition sides for that character. Download the sides. Review the sides until you are familiar with them and comfortable performing them.
Hide! Next, set up your space. Find a quiet space with little disturbance and prepare to record your audition using whatever recording software is available to you. This can be done on your phone if access to a studio or home-recording equipment is limited. Then, find a person to read the part across from you. This person does not have to be an actor. If no one is available, perform the side yourself, skipping the lines of the other part.
Making the Audition
Slate! Begin your audition by stating your name followed by your primary location. Then, be sure to state which character(s) you will be auditioning for.
Create! After slating, begin performing your material. Things to consider as you record your material are:
- Ensure that there are no distractions in your surrounding environment.
- Your audition should showcase healthy vocal variety, creative acting choices, and individuality! We prefer naturalistic styles of acting, so always opt for performing with your natural voice over attempting accents or qualities you are not entirely comfortable with.
- Do not repeat takes of each line. Perform straight-through each side, and record each side only once.
- Record all of the sides for one character at once. Do not create different recordings for the different sides.
- If auditioning for multiple characters, record each character separately. You must repeat your slate before each new character recording.
Appreciate! Thank the listener for his or her time in reviewing your audition.
Uploading the Audition
Submit! Without editing your voice in the audition or adding external sounds, export to either an .mp3 or .wav file. Upload this file to the form on the casting call page. Once this is uploaded and the rest of the audition form is complete, you can click submit!
Commit! Patiently await a response from our production team. Due to a multitude of auditions received each day, it can take the entire audition period for our producer to respond to your audition. Once cast, a sample contract would be sent to you for your review, as well as a reiteration of the production details found on the casting call page. All you have to do then is accept!
To Remember
- You and the person reading the part across from you should be the only people heard in the recording. The person reading across from you does not have to be an actor. If no one is available, then you can simply skip the lines for the other character in the scene.
- Record straight through the side! Do not repeat different takes of the same line.
- Your audition must include raw audio only. Do not edit your voice or add layers of sound to the audition. Simply perform the sides for each character you will be auditioning for.
- Voiceover auditions do not have video. This means that the only way to create an entire world for the listener is with your voice. Make enlivened and diverse choices, be bold and be natural, and healthily present your voice as unique and capable.
- Record all of the sides for each character at once. Do not create new recordings for different sides. If auditioning for multiple characters, do create a new recording for each character and repeat your slate each time. You do not have to submit a new form for each character. All of your recorded auditions for each character can be submitted with one form.
